A Most Elemental Training Regime

While Enigma was perfectly content to allow Edmund to continue his martial arts tutelage at the College of Martial Arts, the young tigerkin is ultimately his apprentice and star pupil. Since the Great Detective is one of the foremost experts with the College of Magical Science, his own hands-on training with Edmund is primarily focused on that specialization.

And yet, he would be ashamed of himself if he molded Edmund into a clone of himself. So instead, the mentor chose to focus his instruction on honing and perfecting the potential that was already there in his student’s storm magic.

Part of that process, as they both discovered, involved getting the big cat to mindfully experience the sensation of wind and water moving around him. Feeling the flow brush against his fur, learning to shift and redirect it with the slight, precise movements and impulses.

That feeling in particular was of vital importance. A storm mage who cannot effectively perform when exposed to the very elements they command will never truly learn to thrive with their talents. Edmund, who had spend most of his youth with the city of Oplentis, had to build up both a tolerance to the natural forces and the ability to properly regulate his body temperature.

It was a good start, both to Edmund’s instruction and their relationship as master and apprentice. It built up the foundations both of Edmund’s mastery and the mutual trust the two beastkin place in each other to this day.

And it gave Edmund something to work on until Enigma could figure out a safe way to incorporate lightning magic into the regime.

This lovely YCH from Marsel-Defender was perfect for Edmund, as a burgeoning master of storm magic. I’m particularly fond of the expression, and the way it makes him look lost in thought.
