Wreathed In Love
Not every moment of Edmund and Mortimer’s vacation was spend on the beach. Even between touring the city, going out for a few drinks, swimming in the ocean, and enjoying each others company in public and private, the two lovers made time to simply relax and take in the quiet moments.
One such moment came as they discovered a flower field on the outskirts of town. As they idled the time away, the rabbitkin had an idea. Using a few old family tricks, Mortimer began to pluck a few flowers out of the field.
“Whatcha doin’, Mort?”, his boyfriend inquired curiously as they sat together.
“Something I used to do a lot with my mom. I think you’ll think it’s cute.” Satisfied that he had enough to work with, the lapine started weaving them together into a set of two laurel wreaths.
“Ya nevah told me ya knew how tah make those.”
“It never really comes up. Mom’s a florist, and we made these crowns to sell all the time when I was little. The other kids always loved them.”
Grinning as the afternoon sun started to warmly caress his fur, he handed one of the creations to Edmund. Just as he used to as a child, he folded his long ears forward so that it was easy to slip on the wreath. As he spread his ears wide to secure the crown in place, he thought back to his mother, doubtless running their shop at this very moment. In that moment, he couldn’t help but smile. Rabbitkin may be small compared to other beastkin species, but he was proud to be one.
“I was always happy to make them, and to wear them. Even now, they make me feel cute!”
Watching Mortimer glow up in the afternoon sun, in more ways than one, Edmund slipped his own wreath onto his head. With comparatively smaller ears than his partner, the otherwise large, muscle-bound tiger had to rely on the construction on the crown to keep it secure. Fortunately for him, it slipped on perfectly.
“Nah, Mort. It’s not the crown that makes you cute. You make you cute.”
This was the product of yet another YCH from LittleBadWolf back in June of 2024, exploring another facet of Edmund and Mortimer’s beach side vacation. I suppose I must have just been in a Mortimer mood that month, because this is the third image in a row where he’s the primary subject.
As a fun fact, as of the time of writing, this image is still the lock screen wallpaper on my phone. I smile every time I see him.
