What Happened Here?
“Blood, a lot of it… but no body, and no evidence of being dragged. Could the rain have washed the trail away, or was magic involved?”
This one was drawn by AlaiCinereo (FA/Twitter) back in April of 2018.
Though I haven’t seen the artist post anything for some time, I remember being drawn in by the dark, moody atmosphere of their work. They also had quite a few pieces set in locations inspired by Victorian London, the origin for many world-famous murder mystery stories and authors.
This made them perfect for exploring what Enigma might look like out in the field, performing detective work. I was particularly happy with the way his clothing and tattoo glowed faintly even in the darkness of night, making him stand out amidst the gloom.
It’s only a shame that I wasn’t doing any serious writing during this time, otherwise I would’ve certainly spun this into at least a short story. But if I wasn’t sold on the idea of Enigma being a Sherlock Holmes/Hercule Poirot-inspired detective, this piece would’ve solidified that.
