Wait Out the Storm

In the weeks after return from their investigation of Oplentis, after the shocking truth had been revealed, Edmund was in a difficult head space. And like many young men, he attempted to channel this raw emotion into his training.

Unfortunately, that often let the mage’s practice field flooded, due to the influx of powerful storm magic. Knowing that his apprentice needed a better venue to vent out his frustrations, Enigma took him to an isolated woodland area outside of the city gates and allowed him to let loose.

Knowing what was likely to transpire, he set up a hammock in the most sheltered thicket he could find, and watched the torrent unfold. Edmund would eventually exhaust himself. And when he did, Enigma would calmly bring him back to the city.

Sometimes being a good teacher involves just sitting back and letting your students process their emotions in a safe space. Admittedly, poor Enigma would like not to get wet, but it’s a small price to pay.

Another wonderful YCH from LittleBadWolf, posted in October of 2024 but commissioned way back in June of the same year. At the time, The Case of the Titan Syndicate was still fresh in my mind, so I decided to go a small, inconsequential tie-in by using Edmund to explain the rain.

Sometimes the best thing to do is just follow the synapses of your own mind.
