To Arms!

Enigma: “So what was your endgame, with all of this?”

Volpes: “The nobility of Oplentis… They could not be allowed to maintain their hold over the city. Too many people had their lives ruined and upended by their tyrannical rule.”

Enigma: “And so you needed your own army to stand up to them?”

Volpes: “Yes. And one with the strength to oppose the greatest mages in the city: The leaders of the noble houses.”

Enigma: “I’ve heard the stories, but surely they can’t be as powerful as the legends claim.”

Volpes: “They aren’t, but those of us less magically inclined are still at a steep disadvantage. And the commoners who are still don’t have the training or knowledge to compete on equal footing.”

Enigma: “And your formula was the way you planned to tip the odds back in your favor?”

Volpes: “Yes.”

This piece from LittleBadWolf was finished back in November of 2023, but I didn’t post it until May of 2024. It is also (as of the time of writing) the last of the interrogation series.

I’m overall happy with this experiment in writing style, and I think it’s something I can see myself returning to if a piece feels right for it. It was a good way to do some world-building from Volpes’s viewpoint.
