The Stories of Crossroads

Here, you will find a compendium of each of the major tales that have taken place in the realm of Crossroads and beyond, along with a brief synopsis for them.

The Case of the Titan Syndicate

(Art by Deriaz)

In the corrupt, shady city of Oplentis, where even the great Theorem Magistrum can’t reach, events have been set into motion by those who wish to challenge the ruling authorities. When one young tigerkin cub is caught in their web, Rabrandt “Enigma” Cyanis takes it upon himself to investigate.

This series of short stories depicts those events, and their unlikely conclusion.

The Rise of Emperor Enigma

(Art by balalevGod)

A non-canonical alternate reality/outcome of The Case of the Titan Syndicate, wherein even the Great Detective Enigma has fallen, transformed into a tyrant who deposed the old aristocracy of Oplentis in order to established his own reign of terror. Enter a empire of muscle, forged through strength and extensive physical and mental conditioning of the citizenry.

The Cyberpunk City

(Art by Vallhound)

As a planeswalker, Enigma possesses the ability to travel to other worlds, referred to as planes, and explore them as he pleases.

On one such plane, there exists an entire cityscape with advanced technology that rivals even his beloved Magistrum’s engineering. Imposing structures, markets open well into the right, a world both impressive and dangerous stands before him, but the mind mage is nothing if not adaptable.

These tales depict his adventures in this brave new world.

The Perfect Symbiosis

Once upon a time, I tried to give Enigma a symbiote, called Companion, that would endow him with all sorts of new powers and abilities. Similar to The Rise of Emperor Enigma, this is now non-canon.

And yet, it was such a crucial component of my early writing, and I’m still fond enough of the idea in concept, that it would be a shame not to preserve it here for future viewing.

Edmund and Morty’s College Life

(Art by LittleBadWolf)

As a professor at the Theorem Magistrum, Enigma is responsible for the safety and well-being of the students in his charge. Two such students, his apprentice Edmund Azurium and his boyfriend Mortimer, have their own struggles, dealing with the drama and perils of daily life in a college environment.

These tales depict the couple’s efforts to navigate such obstacles.

Edmund and Morty’s Beach Vacation

(Art by Marsel-Defender)

After assisting his teacher in solving The Case of the Titan Syndicate, Edmund was withdrawn, unable to cope with revelations unveiled. In order to give his student time to heal, Enigma signed off on a vacation both for the young tigerkin and his boyfriend.

In these stories, the couple enjoy some light-hearted hijinks at a Magistrum-sponsored beach side resort.

Holiday Themes

(Art by LittleBadWolf)

Like any civilization, the people of Crossroads celebrate all manner of holidays over the course of the year. These tales depict such times, and how they appeal to the various characters they call this plane their home.

Miscellaneous Short Stories

(Art by LittleBadWolf)

Not every story can be neatly categorized. Though they might explore new scenarios and potentials, they don’t fit so neatly into one of the other categories.

This is where those tales resides.

Concepting

(Art by DanSyron)

These are similar to Miscellaneous Short Stories, however these lore bits aren’t long or significant enough to qualify as stories that stand on their own.

These would more accurately be classified as lore notes and accompanying art pieces, which I’ve used over the years to explore concepts and ideas that may or may not be implementation in current or future stories set on the plane of Crossroads and beyond.

Fan/Crossover Works

These are works of dubious canonicity to the Crossroads universe. The reasons for this are simple. Either they depict characters that I don’t own (all of whom are friends of mine), or they were gifts from friends.

Even if they aren’t canon, they are valid explorations of my world and characters, and each of them was absolutely worth my time and energy.

Final Fantasy XIV Fan-Fics

(Art by Seiryuuden)

And for something completely different, I’ve been playing Final Fantasy XIV for a number of years now, and I’ve grown attached to my character, Rabrandt Razorclaw. As many people to start to grow too attached to pixels, I used my creative energy to flesh out his backstory in a little more detail.

Those stories are places here.
