Edmund, a musclebound anthro tiger in his college years, dresses as a masked wrestler with his signature blue color-scheme. He is flexing his impressive arm in a fighting cage, with a free hand teasingly posed on his waste with a winning smile.

The Rise of Performance Fighting

Edmund has never shied away from his past as a prize fighter before enrolling at the Theorem Magistrum. It’s a part of who he is and how he managed to escape the life of an Oplentian orphan. Even as Enigma’s apprentice, his passion for martial arts never wavered.

Instead, it was supplemented by his mentor’s love of theater and storytelling. Between Enigma bringing him maybe of the school’s stage productions, and the tabletop Trailblazer group he’s become a core member of, the Magistrum has granted him an appreciation both of play and performance art.

Thus, Enigma found himself strangely unsurprised when he heard to learn that Edmund sought to resurrect his old “Azure Lightning” persona, only this time with a hand-crafted costume. Distinct from the martial arts competitions already held at the school, these “performance fights” combined martial arts displays, stage choreography, and a dash of magic to dazzle audience with breath-taking performances.

With a quiet smile, he has more than happy to sign off on the proposal. It helped that the venture wouldn’t solely come out the College of Magical Science’s extracurricular budget since it was jointly run by the College of Martial Arts and the College of Creative Arts.

Not even graduated, his apprentice had already found a way to cleverly get around the bureaucracy of academia.

When I saw this YCH from Hudin, I knew it was perfect for Edmund. I’ve already had him in wrestling outfits before, so adding a mask too it just felt like a natural extension of what was already there.

I didn’t realize at the time that I was basically be inventing professional wrestling in Crossroads to go with it. But honestly it works, both for the world and the character.
