The Companion Blade

A custom Magic: The Gathering card to go with Marsel’s art of my Perfect Bond Enigma.

Theft has always been one of my favorite archetypes in Commander, but it’s not one that I bring out often since it tends to make the people I play with unreasonably upset. It was only natural that I make a card that worked in that space.

The design was inspired by Bloodthirsty Blade, which goads whichever creature it is attached to, and complimented once again by my favorite card from War of the Spark standard: Thought Erasure. Not only does the mind mage take control of your opponent’s creatures with The Companion Blade, but he uses those creatures to further disrupt his adversaries.

I would probably lower the initial cost to cast the equipment if I were to go back and change the card, but despite that I’m overall quite happy with the final design. Perhaps one day I’ll even use it in a custom brew.
