Ready for a Morning Run
While out working a case, or on an adventure off-plane, Enigma can be reasonably assured that he’ll get plenty of exercise in the course of his work. Legwork is vital to any investigation, and more vigorous expeditions into the unknown can be physically demanding by themselves.
But as a professor of the Theorem Magistrum, and as Edmund’s mentor and advisor, he can be most commonly located in Magistrum City, ensuring that the next generation benefits from a strong grounding in applied magic, among other subjects. Despite his emphasis of practical application and hands-on instruction, it is mostly sedentary work that isn’t too physically demanding.
Even if he was one to allow himself to atrophy, his self-defense certifications, which enable him to travel outside the city and off-plane without an escort, require him to maintain a baseline level of physical fitness. And though Edmund spends much of his time in the training halls, either sparring or making use of the equipment, those same facilities hold no luster for The Great Detective.
Thus, in the early hours of the day, you can often find Enigma on his run. One might assume that means hitting the streets, and they would be mistaken. As the morning dew gives way to glorious sunrise, Enigma can be found traversing the rooftops and alleyways. Few things get his blood pumping the way leaping from one rooftop to another does.
According to rumors, he’s created an elaborate network of pathways and connections, both above and below ground, that there’s no where he can’t go inside Magistrum City. Whether there’s any truth to the story or not, no one doubts his skill at traversing complicated terrain. To the Great Detective, there is always a path to his next destination.
What can I say? I’ve always thought that parkour and those who do it are extremely cool, and it’s something I love incorporating into Enigma’s character.
