Noxie Joins the Fight!
Though she has already been featured in the first part of my new storyline, The Case of the Rotten Foundation, I would like you to the newest member of my cast: Noxie!
As you can likely tell from her appearance, Noxie hails from the Cyberpunk City of Machresse, a place where technology has advanced in ways that more align with our own world than the fantasy world of Crossroads. In previous pieces that depict Enigma exploring the setting, I have made mention of a planeswalker peer who helps him learn the ropes and adapt to this city, even lending him resources like a pistol and motorbike. Ponder who this individual is no longer, for she is depicted in the artwork above! She’s still adjusting to the reality of her new powers, but fortunately she met someone with experience using them.
Though several years Enigma’s junior, and closer in age to Edmund, Noxie makes a living working as a mercenary-for-hire in Machresse. She has contacts in multiple gangs and criminal organizations that provide her with gigs, the proceeds of which go towards helping keep her family’s sushi bar afloat. The name “Noxie” is a alias that she used when on the job, or looking for work.
Her mother, once a mercenary in her own right, was the first person to use “Noxie” as her callsign, before setting down to have a family of her own. She is both proud and disappointed in this turn of events. While she is happy that her little Sadie was raised well, and capable of handling herself, it tears her up inside to know that she was not able to keep Sadie from becoming “Noxie” and entering a life she was hoping to keep buried.
Circumstances have brought her to the greatest detective in the multiverse, just in time for her latest payday to be threatened by a series of bizarre circumstances. With his help, she may just be able to unravel the case before her, hopefully before the rent is due.
Even though An Introduction to Machresse came out first, this picture is the first visual depiction of Noxie, commissioned from the ever reliable LittleBadWolf. I look forward to showing more of her as I continue writing my latest story, and I hope you will too!
At the time of writing, I have the first part of An Introduction to Machresse uploaded to FA for your viewing pleasure, but not on this blog yet. It will be uploaded here in it’s entirety once I debut the second half of the short story this month.
