Enigma of the Azorius

Here he is, the first depiction of the Wolf Mind Mage himself, drawn by my good friend Maddie/Pyradox (NSFW if you click their profile) back in July of 2017. This was done as a favor to me, since we’d been friends for a long time and they enjoyed drawing as a way to express their creativity.

At the time, I was just starting to get into Magic: The Gathering. I took one of those personality quizzes you see all the time on the internet, to see what color combo I most identified with.

My result was White/Blue aka Azorius. When Maddie offered to help me design my original character, I told them to lean more towards the “sagely” aspects of White/Blue, rather than the more “knightly” aspects. I fell in love with the concept immediately. Even today, the design might be streamlined and cleaner, but overall remains largely unchanged from this initial concept.

It speaks to the strength of Maddie’s initial design that it’s endured even all these years later.
