Delving Deep into the Unknown

Another early piece back from the days I was still working out the initial concept of Enigma. This time, the artist is Grimm, who goes by GrandTaurus (NSFW Warning if you click on his profile) on most of his socials. It also holds the distinction of being the very first piece of art I ever paid money for, back in October of 2017. And it would be the first of many, many to follow.

I recall that part of the inspiration behind this piece was the story line regarding the Eldrazi in Battle for Zendikar up to Eldritch Moon in the web fiction for Magic: the Gathering. Though this piece does not specifically take place either on Zendikar or Innistrad, it invokes the feelings of both with its ruined landscape and dark, moody lighting under the starry sky respectively.

More importantly, this helped establish important aspects of the character. Literally, he’s an adventurer who isn’t shy about exploring dangerous locales in the pursuit of knowledge. And metaphorically, he is a light shining in the darkness to illuminate the way.
