Enigma, a grey anthro wolf with golden eyes, lounges on a soft cushioned seat, sprawled across it with an open tome and a warm drink. He stares wistfully at the night sky, with a content smile on his face.

A Cozy Night

Enigma, as a planeswalker, has numerous exploits and adventures under his belt. Yet he still harbors a nostalgia for his youth, when he could only travel to other planes vicariously, by reading about the fictional and non-fictional journeys of brave wanderers and intrepid detectives. If anything, traveling the multiverse has made him an even more voracious bibliophile than he already was as young wolf.

When he’s on campus, either teaching for the semester or taking some time for himself between adventures, it’s not uncommon to see him snuggle into a comfortable corner of his apartment, or the Magistrum Archives, with a good book and a warm cup of tea or coffee. One might even catch him wistfully daydreaming, comparing the protagonist’s circumstances to something he encountered or learned about while away “on sabbatical”.

On days or nights like these, outside observers might find it hard to believe that this romantic idealist is one of the greatest detectives in the known multiverse. A curiosity and wonder for the world is the fuel that keeps him moving through thick and thin.

He wishes he could share it more directly with his students, but for now he’ll have to make due with stories and tales.

One of the strengths of taking more time to truly write Enigma this year is that I feel closer to him and his character now than I ever have before. Especially now, that I’ve started expressing his curiosity for other worlds in the story I’m writing with Noxie.

Word of advice to other writers, the best way to understand your story is to just write it. And rewrite it if you have to.

Thanks as always to LittleBadWolf for lending their talents to this piece.
