All of the Entering, Without Any of the Breaking

Transcript Below:

When night falls, and the people of Crossroads are fast asleep, Companion has almost free reign over his host’s body. Don’t be alarmed. Not only is Enigma aware of this, he has given his approval. While his mind is fast asleep, he’s agreed to let Companion go out and stretch “his” legs. In addition, Enigma might even trust Companion to perform certain tasks that will aid his ongoing investigations.

Such tasks are what brings Companion to this seemingly abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of the city. Enigma has gathered reports that a large scale drug and person trafficking operation is taking place in the area, and he has entrusted Companion to do some of the legwork.

Despite it’s impressive size, the Imperfect Bond form Companion takes while his host is asleep is adept at stealth and agile movement. This has to do with the inherently chemical composition of it’s physique, which is even imparted to the host body. As Novra depicts, he can loosen the chemical bonds of his body to allow it to effortlessly slip through cracks, most commonly found around windows and vents. In addition, he can release tendrils with enough tensile and grip strength to hold his body aloft, using verticality to keep himself undetected.

When morning rises, and Enigma’s mind awakens, he will read Companion’s mind to get an idea of what happened, and what information his “roommate” has acquired overnight. For it’s part, Companion is just glad that it can be of assistance.

Such was the post I wrote to go along with this piece, commissioned from Novra aka Beef McCat back in September of 2019.

It’s intended purpose was to explore what Companion could do while in symbiote form. As a creature designed to be a stealthy predator, I imagine it would still have the skill and instinct to perform complex operations even when “tamed” by Enigma. Rather than throw that away, an enterprising mind mage would want to make use of that valuable resource, making this a win-win scenario for the two of them.

And before you ask: Yes, Companion can slip in and out of buildings like this without damaging the host.
