Why yes, I do know how to use this.
“As much as I hate to admit it, there may come a time where my magic alone just won’t cut it. I need something to fall back on for just such an occasion.”
After a few…. eventful adventures, Enigma has decided to take up combat training so that he won’t be caught off-guard so easily. Luckily, the academy he grew up in offers just such training. It’s usually reserved for soldiers, but they could hardly refuse their best student. Doubly so when he brings back so many fascinating stories with him.
Another beautiful piece by Erikku-Kun from back in June of 2018.
Technically, it serves as my first foray into something vaguely resembling the concept of long-form storytelling between multiple pieces. The idea was that this is a pseudo-sequel to “Where Did YOU Come From!?“. After nearly being done in by an assassin, Enigma realizes that he can’t purely rely on magic to get by, so he takes the time to learn some basic swordsmanship.
It was also yet another way I wished to distinguish Enigma from Jace, by making him less purely reliant on magic to defend himself. As I liked to tell people back then, he was competent enough to defend himself against common ruffians, but would likely lose a “fair fight” to a trained knight or soldier.
As I fleshed out the school into what would become the Theorem Magistrum, even this short text description would become somewhat outdated. Specifically, it would make no sense in my current conception of the world to reserve such training purely for soldiers, so that is no longer canon.
But what is still canon is the way that Enigma brings back stories and trinkets from his travels. There’s a very slim chance that will ever change.
